Prof. Anders Fjell, and the team at LCBC, have entered a collaborative research effort together with, among other, Harvard and Oxford University. The aim is to predict Alzheimer’s disease 10 years before onset, when there is still time for target interventions to minimalise illness progression.
- There are over 40.000 Norwegians with Alzheimer’s disease, and the numbers are increasing.
- The researchers are going to investigate why some are more vulnerable to Alzheimer’s than others, and when the initial changes occur in the brain
- The assumption is that the disease is caused by the sticky protein amyloid
