Age Consolidate

Previous research on episodic memory in aging has focused almost entirely on encoding and retrieval processes, largely ignoring a third critical process: consolidation – the process in which memories are stored in the brain. This project aims to provide this missing link, by directly testing how age-related changes in consolidation processes in the brain impact episodic memory decline. As sleep is a condition known to be affected by age, the project will also try to explore the role of sleep quality and sleep efficiency in the consolidation of memories.
